About the NMC Horizon Report: Museum Edition

Horizon Reports

The NMC Horizon Report > 2015 Museum Edition is a collaboration between the NMC and the Balboa Park Online Collaborative.

The ideas that eventually lead to the creation of the NMC Horizon Report: Museum Edition began to take shape in early 2007, when the NMC began to explore the potential of research that would have a focus on the applications of emerging technologies for museums, especially as it might be used for education and interpretation. A round of initial conversations involving leaders from museums from around the globe was led by Len Steinbach and Susan Chun, and the interest in producing such research was confirmed. In the fall of 2009, the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation saw the opportunity to build on that interest and provided funding to support the production of a museum edition of the NMC's highly regarded Horizon Report. The first formal edition of the report, the NMC Horizon Report: 2010 Museum Edition, was published in the fall of 2010.

The 2015 Horizon.Museum Panel of Experts is convening in October 2014 and will be conducting its research and discussion in this wikispace. The NMC Horizon Report > 2015 Museum Edition will be released in April, 2015 at the AAM Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Members of the museum community are encouraged to follow the Panel of Experts's progress as the discussion unfolds and to use the wiki as a resource and reference tool. It is the record of the processes used, materials referenced, research methods, and decisions that are part of creating the NMC Horizon Report > 2015 Museum Edition. It is meant to provide a deep resource of materials that will underpin the Report.

Any interested party is encouraged to participate in the Horizon.Museum Project, as users of and contributors to the wiki, or by sharing resources on Twitter, using #NMChz.
